Restless Rider
A powerhouse dark bay filly from Independence Hall’s debut crop, blazing a sharp :10 flat breeze. She’s built for speed and class—a standout juvenile ready to light up the track this season. She will be campaigned by Norm Casse.
Teamed up with talented young trainer Norm Casse at the OBS June Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale to land a promising filly from the first crop of Independence Hall.
Catalogued as hip 804, the attractive dark bay flashed a quick and efficient stride through her :10 flat breeze punctuated by a head-turning gallop out in :20 ⅘ and :33 ⅖.
Bearing a notable resemblance to her sire, the Apr. 17 foal is stoutly built with a deep shoulder and nice top line. She has a fluid walk, keen eye and classy disposition.
Independence Hall, whose first crop of runners are juveniles of this year, has every right to make it as a successful sire. By top stallion Constitution–like highly regarded Tiz the Law–he was an open-length debut winner at two who immediately went on to take the G3 Nashua S. by more than a dozen lengths and then dominated the Jerome S. on the first day of his sophomore season. Second in the G3 Sam F. Davis S. after that, he was third in the G1 Pegasus World Cup early in his 4-year-old year and romped by 7 ¼ lengths in Keeneland’s nine-furlong G2 Fayette S. later that term.
His progeny have been extremely well received at the 2-year-old sales, led by a $1-million seller at OBS March and $700K youngster at OBS April.
The filly’s dam Stirred (Shakin It Up), meanwhile, was a Santa Anita debut maiden special weight winner and was further flattered this February when her stakes-bound half-sister Formula Rossa (Vekoma) aired on debut in Arcadia to earn ‘TDN Rising Star’ honors and a 91 Beyer Speed Figure.
After a standard post-sale breather, Stirred ‘23 will be conditioned by well-regarded Kentucky-based trainer Norm Casse. Casse, the son of Hall of Famer Mark Casse and an assistant to his father during the careers of champions like Tepin and Classic Empire, has had plenty of his own success as a trainer of record since going out on his own in 2018. Norm has been represented by graded stakes-winning fillies like Southlawn, Super Quick, Hot and Sultry and Pretty Birdie, and took this year’s G3 Pimlico Special S. on Preakness weekend. As of this writing, he is winning at a gaudy 27% for the year.
